Shorten URL with Bit.ly

Shorten URL with Bit.ly is a Mac OS X “service”.

What's a service? A service can process or act upon selected text in almost all applications. For example, a Calculator service could calculate a mathematic expression (like 6 * 7) you had selected, and replace the selection with the result (42).

Who made Shorten URL with Bit.ly?

Shorten URL with Bit.ly was made by me, Tom Kellen.  I found Waffle Software's ThisService and after looking at some of the sample services, I decided to put together a few  of my own. Since URL shortener sites seem to come and go, I thought I would make a few Mac Services usinging some of the different URL systems on the Internet.  This one uses the Bit.ly service. To use the service, select the long URL in your browser and then select the "Shorten URL with Bit.ly" service.  It will put the short URL into your browser's address bar and will also copy it to the clipboard ready for pasting.  One of the nice things about the Bit.ly system is that it will also expand a Bit.ly short URL to show you the long one.  See my "Expand URL with Bit.ly" service.  I hope that someone besides me finds it of use.  If you have any questions or would like to contact me, you can do so via my web site at TaoTek Consulting where you can also find other free Mac services.
